The silver used in our jewellery is Sterling, or 925 silver; this is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Pure silver is generally too soft for producing large functional objects, so jewellery and silverware are traditionally made from sterling silver. Unless otherwise stated, drop earrings are attached to silver fishhook ear wires and stud earrings are held with silver posts and butterflies.
All dimensions are approximate and are the maximum dimensions of the whole piece of jewellery, in the case of drop earrings the stated length does not include the hook; in the case of rings it refers to the size of the head or setting which contains the stone, and if there are 3 dimensions the third refers to the height of the stone from the shank. When we describe crystals, the term cabochon refers to the smooth polished stones, and facetted means the cut twinkly stones. If there is no such description it will be a cabochon.
